Ravenous River Preview

ravenous riverIf you aren’t familiar with Alderac Entertainment Group then allow me to up you on how they roll. AEG has been the provider of solid staples in our community such as Love Letter, Smash Up, and Istanbul. These titles have created a very capitol number of inspired titles of mashing cards, bluffing talents, challenging actions that have flooded our shelves and our local game stores with potent board gaming experiences. Coming this year, Ravenous River will be hitting the shelves and definitely damaging the metaphorical walls of innovative titles. In Ravenous River, each player will take on a role of an animal crossing a river. The role of your animal will be hidden from the rest, so figuring our predator or prey will be the difference between making it to the other side, or being a mid-day snack (unless you’re eating then, mangia mi amico!)

Each of the seven animals have a dedicated predator and prey. Each round every player will be handed an animal card which will then be laid out face down and accompanied by boat cards. The players will then be handed two action cards. On your turn you may take 1 of 3 actions. Look at an animal card and place it face up in a boat or discard an action card to place it in the riverbank again. You may discard an action card to move animals from the boat to the bank or vise versa. Or, you can play perform an action listed on the card! When the round ends, the players see who eats who in the riverbank, then move on to the boat and repeat the eating process. They then unload the animals on the other side of the river and repeat the eating process again(buffet anyone?); surviving animals score 1 VP on the bank and 2VP on the other side. First to 6 VP’s wins! Expect to see this coming out sometime this year!
