In Betabotz you’re one of a select group of robots competing for the honor of passage to the promised land of Robotopia: a land bountiful with gears and circuits, where oil flows like water. But only one robot can enter Robotopia at a time, so you’ll need to prove you’re worthy by downloading yourself into the best robot body you can buy, bidding on parts and upgrades, competing with other robots during intense missions, and executing powerful code to trip up your opponents, or boost your own abilities. Some missions will be out of your reach, so cut a deal, and work with another robot by fusing into a megabot of incredible power. But don’t forget, in the end only one will be crowned the winner, and the rest must return home in shame. Do you have what it takes to be the top Betabot and prove yourself worthy of entering Robotopia? Play Betabotz and find out! (Betabotz Kickstarter)
Betabotz is a fun and competitive robot building game. To start the game each player receives a robot using the Betabotz bidding system. This will be your robot for the rest of the game. In Phase 1 of the game players can either bid on components to upgrade their robot or select a instant card (aka code card) for use during the mission phase. Players can also obtain power cards to either help pass missions or gain additional rewards. Phase 2 is the mission phase, where all players attempt to complete a specific task. During the mission is where you can use code cards to hinder others or help yourself. If you are unable to complete the mission alone, it would be wise to team up with others in order to pass the mission but you will have to negotiate for the reward split. When Phase 2 is over, those that passed the mission collect their reward. Phase 1 and 2 repeat 10 times for a complete game of Betabotz. The robot with the most Bitz is the winner of the game and the lucky recipient of a one way trip to Robotopia.
In creating Betabotz we really worked to create a dynamic, engaging game. The rules are easy to pick up but with a much deeper metagame for strategic gamers to delve into. Most players understand the full rule set within 2 missions but it takes many playthroughs to develop and execute a winning strategy. An important feature of the game is that each player is involved in every bid and every mission, throughout the game it is always your turn, you aren’t stuck waiting on other players to complete their mission before you get to yours. Using the victory points is another key feature that adds to player engagement. Not just an endless pool of resources to be spent, every Bit spent is one less victory point you will have at the end of the game. This makes every component purchase and mission reward split as dramatic as any other part of the game. Building stats in various categories lead us quickly to a robot theme where we further developed the game to match the robotic world. Our amazing artist Tina Bongorno really understood our vision for the game and the world and has created superb graphics that really brings Betabotz to life.
